Beede Site Group Habitat Area Wildlife Game Camera Captures More than 35 Animal Species
Plaistow, NH —- Beede Wildlife Habitat Area wildlife game cameras recently captured an image of what appears to be a 3-point buck on its 40-acre property.
The Beede buck, among other animals, was spotted on game cameras installed as part of the Beede Site’s projects for its second consecutive Wildlife Habitat Council Gold-Certification.

A portion of the Beede Waste Oil Superfund site has been under habitat restoration since 2014, whereby planting of native vegetation has helped support a thriving Plaistow animal species population, both for food sources and reproduction purposes.
Since the spring, the Beede wildlife cameras have captured more than 35 different animal species passing through or living on the site, including nesting ducks and a young bobcat family.

Recently, the cameras have captured several images of does, though this image of the Beede buck marks the first appearance of a male since the cameras were installed.
The appearance of the buck seems of great importance to our Beede neighbors. During a recent virtual Backyard Wildlife Lunch-n-Learn, a neighbor asked our team of experts whether we had yet to see a buck and at that time, we had not.
During that call, we discussed the latest results of an open survey on the future reuse of the property, which is currently slated for residential development. The majority of respondents expressed support for conservation/ open space.

Neighbors have shown support for the many conservation projects at the Beede Site over the years, from the bat counting program with local Scouts troops to the STEM program activities with the Timberlane High School.
The Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC), which certified the Beede Site Habitat Area’s activities, is a nonprofit, non-lobbying organization dedicated to increasing the quality and amount of wildlife habitat on corporate, private and public lands.

The 2020-2021 Beede Site Group Gold Certified-work will expand and enhance our existing conservation work through the following efforts:
- Affixing wood duck nesting boxes along Kelly Brook by the property;
- Installing insect hives to facilitate the native pollinators;
- Expanding our turtle observation program;
- Developing an invasive vegetative species identification and removal program; and
- Installing game cameras to track animal movements through the property.
